About the Author
Shelley Jarl is a mom, Christian, entrepreneur, business owner, author, and lover of all things creative. She strives every day to embrace the abundant life God has given her. As a self-proclaimed warrior, she has put on the armor of God numerous times to overcome tremendous adversity in her life. She can be found living down the end of a ridiculously long driveway, in the mountains of New Hampshire. As proof of her insanity, she owns Weimaraners. But, most importantly, she is a sinner saved by a loving Savior, Jesus.
Without further ado. . .here’s Shelley!
Please describe yourself in three words.
- Christ Centered. (I know, I know, that’s two words). I desire for my faith to be the central core of my life from which all decisions and actions flow.
- Ambitious. I am an entrepreneur and big projects excite me. I normally have numerous projects underway at any given time.
- Creative. I am a musician, weaver, and am regularly involved in all sorts of creative or artistic adventures.
Oh, Shelley! You are SUCH an inspiration and your words describe you to a tee! How did you come up with the title of your book?
The title of my book just came to me in the midst of writing. It was always what the title was going to be. I did survey people about the title because it is long. I asked if they thought it should be shortened or changed. The answer came back unanimously and resoundingly “No, you can’t change it!”
I agree totally on the title – it’s relatable and SO catchy! Who could resist that?
How did you come up with the idea for your book?
During the trial which I write about in the book, I felt the Lord was asking me to spend time in the story of Noah. As I read and re-read the story, I grew more and more to relate to Noah’s story and began to see many parallels to his story and mine. Once I started writing it, it was all just there, that’s how God works in my writing.
Why do you write?
I write because when I have an idea I have to get it out of me or I’ll go crazy. But beyond that, I write to Glorify God. If my work furthers Kingdom growth in any way, then I figure I have done my job.
What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?
One of my most rewarding experiences has been to connect other Christians who are helping each other in their work. I love to see that happen.
I thank you for creating these connections, Shelley! I’m one who has certainly been blessed by these! What do you consider to be the upsides and downsides to being an author?
I guess one of the downsides would be if you are looking to make a living as an author and you’re just starting out, that could be a challenging hill to climb. On the upside, you can set your own hours and work on your own schedule. Additionally, writing is a great “side gig.” I am a business owner and writing is just one aspect of my life.
Could you please share your testimony with us?
I grew up in a Christian home and in a extended family with generations of faithful legacy. My mom is an amazing woman of faith. Through her example of living a life of faithfully leaning on God in times of trials as well as in triumphs, I was introduced to Jesus and His love for me. Like many young people, I wandered from my faith somewhat in my teen years but have pretty much lived a life of faith for most of my life. I cannot imagine what it would have been like to go through the trials I have endured in life without the Lord.
In addition to my love for the Lord, I love His people and think “the church” caring for one another is a beautiful thing.
Yours is such a lovely family legacy of faith Shelley. Thank you for sharing! Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Well, I start each day with a cup of tea and my bible. I own Weimaraners, my favorite color is brown, my favorite meal is Chicken Cordon Bleu, I am a musician, weaver, and love creative things.
With an especially catchy title, this short book is comfortably written from a place of experience and vulnerability. Here is a touching personal story alongside a brief study of the faith of Noah; all with the goal of encouraging the reader to find their own freedom in truly trusting God. These eleven lessons provide readers with an opportunity to study as well as apply carefully selected scriptures and prayer prompts.
The author suggests several possible ways to utilize this resource. For my own deeper study, I chose to complete one lesson per day. A commendable work and one I highly recommend! I am looking forward to more from this author, too!
